Guilds

Towns grew as trade increased, leading people to crowd together in cramped housing conditions. Guilds, which were unions for certain trades, established apprenticeships and requirements like producing a masterpiece to become a journeyman and join. Jews faced persecution by being excluded from guilds and took up merchant work instead. Towns ultimately contributed to the decline of feudalism as life became more organized in urban settings.
