Editor's Notes
Our Vision
Greystone’s vision is to design and manufacture a wide range of high quality sensing measurement and transmittal of data products related to temperature, humidity, pressure, current, air quality and hazardous gases.
This vision is realized through our dedication to rigid adherence to quality standards, efficient service provided to our customers, the genuine pride we take in our work and our continued quest to advance the state of our industry through research and development.
Greystone Energy Systems Inc. was established in 1983. Prior to this time our owner was employed as a regional manager of small building automation system company. It was during this time that he saw a market need for peripheral products to measure parameters such as temperature and humidity levels as the choices of product were very limited due the industry being in its infancy. Greystone was started and he hired his first employee to assist in the design and manufacture of a line of temperature sensors. During this time they worked from the basement of his home. Over the next few years sales grew and so did Greystone. Adding more employees and design engineers to develop more products.
Today Greystone employs approximately 65 people in 4 locations.
Our head office and factory is located in Moncton, NB Canada. Although Moncton is a small city (est Pop. 150,000) on the east coast of Canada we have many advantages from being located here. People in the area are very loyal and it shows in the fact that many of our employees have been with us for 10+ years. Moncton has 2 universities and 2 technical colleges which provide a vast pool of talented people as well as many more in the vicinty. Moncton is the Atlantic hub for many companies and therefore courier companies like UPS, Fed-X and Purolator use Moncton as their hub as well. Moncton is also a short distance away from major air and sea cargo ports which allows for decreased shipment times.
To further assist our customers worldwide, Greystone has set up 3 satellite sales offices. At this time there are 2 in the United States and 1 in Singapore. In addition to these offices we many distributors worldwide.
.
Greystone’s quality department consists of 3 staff members that monitor all aspects of product development and manufacturing and has the authority to stop production if required. They are responsible for and perform quality inspections throughout the entire production process which includes incoming component testing, adherence to manufacturing and testing procedures and finished product testing.
ISO 9001 - Greystone has established a reputation as a manufacturer dedicated maintaining an exemplary adherence to Quality Management Standards. Such that we have implemented a quality management system that is ISO9001 certified. Our quality system is audited annually by an outside agency in order to maintain our certification. Our quality management system provides tangible evidence of product reliability and conformity with our customer’s requirements due to our returned product rate is less then 0.2% of product shipped. This, itself provides a tremendous cost savings for both Greystone and our customers.
RohS – The Directive on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment 2002/95/EC commonly referred to as the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive or RoHS was adopted in February 2003 by the European Union and took effect on 1 July 2006, and is required to be enforced and become law in each member state. This directive restricts the use of six hazardous materials in the manufacture of various types of electronic and electrical equipment. RoHS is often referred to as the lead-free directive, but it restricts the use of seven substances:
Lead (Pb)
Mercury (Hg)
Cadmiun (Cd)
Hexavalent chromium (Cr6+)
Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB)
Polybrominated diphenyal (PBDE)
Acrylamide
CSA/UL – Although most of Greystone’s products are classed as low voltage devices and do not require any such approval, Greystone does manufacture a line of current sensors and switches that do require CSA/UL approval. During product development, our engineering team researches any approval requirements and designs to meet either CSA or UL standards. The product is then submitted to the appropriate agency for approval.
CE - The European Union (EU) has implemented a system to protect the health and welfare of consumers and users of manufactured products and these products are identified by the use of "CE Marking" These directives are voted into laws by the respective countries and compliance is required by all manufacturers and importers.Greystone Energy Systems, in conjunction with Intertek Testing Services (ITS), has successfully demonstrated compliance of many of our products to the appropriate EU directives.
BTL - Greystone designed and manufactures a line of Carbon Dioxide/Temperature/Humidity transducers (CDD3 Series) that utilize the BACnet® communication protocol. This line has been tested and approved by BTL, listed on their approved product listing and have been approved to carry the BTL logo. It is our goal to offer more BACnet® compatible products in the future
