Golf is a precision sport played by using different clubs to hit a ball into holes distributed across a field using the fewest strokes. The first golf player associations were founded in Scotland in 1744 and the UK in 1745, establishing the first set of rules for golf. The earliest golf associations were the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers and The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.
