The organization has seen an increase in demand for their peer support programs for children coping with illness and death due to the challenging times. In these challenging times we have seen a marked increase in people
contacting us for support for children and teens coping with the impact of
illness and death. In the past we have always been able to meet the demand
for our programs because of the tremendous compassion and generosity of
our friends who know the value of our work and our record of service in our
community.
Peer support is vital to helping children breakdown the isolation that
accompanies loss and grief. Children who are supported in their grief are:
• 5 times less likely to complete suicide
• 10 times less likely to engage in substance abuse
• 20 times less likely to develop behavioral disorders
We have learned that supporting children through grief is not only the right
thing to do for their emotional and physical well-being but also goes a long
way to helping prevent more complex problems as adolescents and young
adults.
Corporate, foundation and individual donations have been impacted by the
downturn in the local and national economy. As an agency that receives no
state or federal support your generosity is critical in ensuring that children,
teens and families receive the support they need, free of charge for as long as
needed. We still have much to do to meet our mission – I hope you can assist
