GOLIATH NATIONAL BANK ADDRESSES FEBRUARY DATA BREACH &
NETWORK SYSTEM OUTAGE
Insider threat organization CYBER SEALS explains circumstances regarding GNB’s current
security status
NEW YORK, MAY 6 2016 – Goliath National Bank (“GNB”) announced today that its financial
network infrastructure was compromised in February of this year. The breach left GNB’s
systems down vulnerable with an estimate enterprise loss of $2 mill (100% entirely of GNB’s
non-customer assets). Goliath National Bank employed insider threat organization CYBER
SEALS to assess the breached infrastructure as well as employ security measures to strengthen
said infrastructure. Customers of GNB, including customers of GNB’s wholly owned
subsidiaries, may continue to use GNB services and/or take other actions to their respective
accounts.
The Board of Directors of Goliath National Bank met with insider threat team CYBER SEALS to
better understand the nature of the incident. According to SEALS, GNB employed a contractor
nighttime security guard who has ties to a “hacker-for-hire” underground organization. The
hacker was able to leverage malware into the e-trading network causing the system to be down
for approximately four hours. Soon after the breach, SEALS’s Insider Threat Response Team was
brought in to mitigate the threat as soon as systems were compromised. The incident is being
diagnosed as an “IT sabotage” crime and as of May 2016, the perpetrator has been apprehended
and will face due legal processing.
Goliath National Bank ensures that alongside adhered consultation from SEALS, all steps and
measures have been taken to not only return GNB systems to a status quo, but also to a further
secured status. Both physical and IT security measures have been employed, cyber firewalls and
high-end system protections have been installed, and all employees, both current and facing
impending employment, are undergoing brand new behavioral screenings to ensure that they will
work justly under the best intentions for Goliath National Bank.
“We understand the gravity of this incident” said GNB CIO Andrew Semple. “But we are
optimistic about the new security controls SEALS has employed in our systems and are sure that
these new controls will propel GNB both financially and technologically”.
Goliath National Bank has contacted and taken necessary steps in filing the forensic evidence of
this incident with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Federal Bureau of
Investigation. At this time, GNB nor CYBER SEALS can disclose any further details of the
pending case.
