The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive functioning. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help protect against mental illness and improve symptoms.
Debate: Do we need librarians now we have Google?Phil Bradley
These are the slides that I've prepared for a debate at UCL on June 12th 2008. They won't mean a great deal without my commentary, but may be of interest.
Tisha is a 15-year-old girl who loves making cartoons. Her uncle introduces her to Facebook, where she connects with over 20 people. A contact suggests she share her cartoons on Flickr and create a presentation on SlideShare. Tisha joins these sites and gets positive feedback on her work. She later sees a job posting on LinkedIn for cartoon designers and applies using her online portfolio, ultimately getting hired by TeleZent.
The story describes a man who helps a butterfly emerge from its cocoon by cutting it open with scissors. However, the butterfly's body is small and weak, and its wings are shriveled and unable to fly. The struggle to emerge from the cocoon on its own would have forced fluid into the butterfly's wings, making them strong enough for flight. Sometimes struggles are necessary for growth, and obstacles help make us stronger.
