Green Dot Holdings has filed a new patent for their bioplastic material, GDH-B1, and is conducting testing to demonstrate its compostability. They have produced a compostable iPhone case as their first commercial product made from GDH-B1. Additional testing shows GDH-B1 withstands boiling water, dishwashing, and degradation in a compost pile. Toy and pet product companies are interested in using GDH-B1 as a safe, sustainable alternative to traditional plastics. Green Dot has received a grant to continue research on GDH-B1 at the Kansas Polymer Research Center.
