The Gauteng Departmentof RoadsandTransport has reiterateditspositionandemphasisedthe
importance of promptlyresolvingthe issue of e-tollingsysteminthe province.
MEC for PublicTransportandRoads Infrastructure JacobMamaboloison recordsayingthat the
Provincial Governmenthasbeenseizedwiththismatterwithaview tooppose itsimplementationin
the province.
MEC Jacob Mamaboloindicatedthatthe provincial governmentiseagerlywaitingthe
announcementbyNational Governmentonthe future of e-tolls.
Saidthe MEC "As we lookforwardto the announcementbyNational Government,we reaffirm our
viewthate-tollingsysteminitscurrentformburdensGautengresidentsonamatterthat involves
the national economyandthe economiesof neighbouringstates.Aswe anxiouslywaitforthe
decision,the provincial governmentbelievesthatithas put forwarda compellingargumentforthe
scrappingof e-tolls".
The provincial governmenthasbeenworkingwithnational governmenttoensure the
implementationof the e-tollsysteminGautengishalted.
MEC Mamabolohas alsobeenengaging,since November2020, MinisterFikileMbalulaonthe
provincial government’srejectionof the proposedimplementationof Administrative Adjudicationof
Road TrafficOffencesAct(AARTO) regulationsasanothermethodof enforcingthe e-tollingsystem.
