Introduction
Welcome, to the wonderful world of Florida Southern Athletics! As the game worker
scheduler you are responsible for all the game workers provided to you and also those
who may be added throughout your time as the scheduler. You are responsible to
schedule workers for the following sports: Men’s & Women’s Soccer, Volleyball, Men’s
& Women’s Basketball, Men’s & Women’s Lacrosse and Softball. You are in charge of
effectively communicating with the workers in advance to the scheduled games, being
sure the workers arrive at the appropriate times on game day, replacing any call outs,
staying in connection with when games are and if they become delayed or rescheduled ,
and addressing any concerns the workers may have.
4. Page 3
Tips/Advice
1. Always be in contact with Al.
2. The easiest way to keep in contact with your game workers is to have all of the
workers contacts in your phone. (Section them as Game workers)
3. You want to know the game schedule at all times. That way games do not come
as a surprise and you are always prepared. Having a picture on your phone of it
and marking the dates on your phone calendar help greatly.
4. Excel is your best friend. Making your schedules for each individual sport on a
spreadsheet makes it easy to decipher for you, your gamer workers, Al and the
game day managers.
5. Stay involved with what’s going on, on campus and also during specific games.
You may need to schedule more workers than usual depending on the
circumstances. (Tournaments, Regional games etc.)
6. Book your game workers a week or two advance so if something comes up and
they need to call out you will be prepared to schedule another.
7. Be sure to remind your workers the date and time they need to work as the
game approaches. (They tend to be a little forgetful sometimes)
8. ALWAYS know who you have working for each sport. Some days there are more
than one game and scheduling can be a little tricky. (Double scheduling someone
to be at two places at once can happen)
9. Double/triple check as much as you can and have your schedules with you.
(Pictures of them on your phone are a life saver)
10. If you can, work as many games as you can and get to the games when your first
set of workers do (tickets, Parking people) so you can have them clock in and get
them to where they need to be.
11. Be sure to know what is going on for concessions. For some sports you may
need to go get pizza or pick up snacks and drinks if we are out.
12. Lastly, get to know your workers so you know their faces and who they are.
Having a good relationship with them makes scheduling a lot easier and fun!

Men’s and Women’s Basketball
For both Men’s and Women’s Basketball you will need to the same game workers.
Because the women play before the men a lot of times your game workers will just
work both games back to back which is the easiest approach when scheduling for
basketball games. Men’s Basketball is our biggest sport here on campus so be sure to
have your workers show up on time and know what they are doing.
You will need a ticket taker, a pass list person, two sweepers, two filmers , and an usher
who will usually be you. (Al’s Assistant)

Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse
The Men and Women’s lacrosse team plays their games at the Henley Field Bryant
stadium on North Florida Ave. This is where knowing your workers is crucial because
you need to know if they have transportation to the game.
You will need one filmer, one ticket taker, one concessions, one scoreboard and one
table worker for both Men and Women’s teams.
Arrival Times:
Ticket takers- Should arrive an hour and fifteen minutes prior to the start of the
scheduled game.
Concessions- Should arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of the scheduled game.
Filmers- Should arrive 15-20 minutes prior to the start of the game.
Scoreboard- Should arrive 15-20 minutes prior and if it is their first time earlier so that
they can talk to the officials before hand and learn how to use the clock.
Table Worker- 20-30 minutes prior to the game.
Table Worker Duties: For men and women they differ slightly.
Men: The table worker will be the connection to the press box with the officials and
coaches. You will be recording the penalty times for each player that is serving. The
official will tell the table worker the time of the penalty to be served (30sec, 1min or
3min) he will also say if it is releasable or not. The table worker must record the time of
the penalty when it occurred and release the player after the appropriate time has been
served. If it is a releasable penalty, after a goal is scored for either team that player is
free to leave the box. If the official announces a non-releasable penalty they are not
allowed to leave the box after a goal is scored. The table worker must also radio up to
the press box the penalty called, what it was for, and the number of the player that is
9. Page 8
serving. They will also be the second set of eyes for the players who assist or score
goals, they will alert the box for which team calls a time out and most importantly they
are the communication with the coaches and officials for any concerns the press box
may have for either.
Women: The table worker also records the penalties for the players but they are not as
frequent. The only time a player is serving in the penalty box is if she gets carded. All
the other penalties will be stopped on the field. The women’s coach would like the table
worker to just keep track of the times of each of penalties. For women they stop a lot.
You will only radio up the penalties that are served in the box. You will also radio the
timeouts and any concerns official or coaches may have with the press box and vice
versa.

Softball
You will need two ticket takers (One for the front gate one for the back), one concession
person who will work with a lady who runs her own concession stand during the
games, and one parking lot attendant.
Arrival times:
Parking lot attendant- Should arrive an hour and fifteen minutes prior to the start of the
game. They will be given a list of who is allowed to park behind the field in that lot. The
games that are the same time and date as basketball you will NOT need a parking
person.
Ticket takers- Should arrive an hour and fifteen minutes prior to the start of the
scheduled game.
