Frederick Douglass is an 8-time Black Music Award winner who worked as a comedian, DJ, actor, and spoken word artist. He began his career in the 1950s, raised by a jazz singer mother and comedy promoter stepfather. He studied drama in California and had roles on Broadway. In the late 1970s he became a mobile DJ and later toured with artists like Millie Jackson. In the 1990s he opened for famous comedians and in 1999 dedicated himself to gospel comedy. He has since released multiple gospel albums and songs, winning several Black Music Awards. He now manages younger gospel artists in addition to his own work.
