A fish hatchery is a facility where fish eggs are hatched and fish are reared through early life stages. Hatcheries provide fish seed for aquaculture and some fisheries by spawning, hatching, and caring for various fish and shellfish species. Factors to be considered in hatchery design include site selection, water supply and disposal systems, equipment selection, and developing floor plans. Tanks can be circular or rectangular and are used for rearing fish at different life stages.

A fish hatchery is a place for artificial breeding, hatching, and rearing through
the early life stages of animals—finfish and shellfish in particular.

4. Importance of Fish Hatchery
Hatcheries provide the seed for aquaculture and some commercial
fisheries. All kinds of fish and shellfish begin life in tanks in a hatchery. A hatchery is a mix of a laboratory and a
farm, where fish and shellfish are spawned, then hatched and cared for.

especially those of fish, poultry or even turtles.

Circular tanks make good culture vessels because they can provide a uniform culture environment,
can be operated under a wide range of rotational velocities to optimize fish health and condition, and can
be used to rapidly concentrate and remove settleable solids.

Rectangular tank for flat bottom for fishes swimming. It can use this tank from for larval
rearing , and the fish storage.

9. Planning for Hatchery Construction
Water Inlet
Inlet structures are built to control the amount of water flowing into the tank at all times. An
inlet structure may be built for a tank supplied through a feeder canal, for example by diverted stream
water, a spring outside the pond, a well or a pumped water supply.

10. Water Outlet
The tank outlet or drain normally has two functions:
 To remove the waste from the tank as quickly as possible
 To maintain the correct water level inside the tank
