Bakeries have experienced a bit of a resurgence in Copenhagen. The process on making Danish pastries originates from the Vienna sweet bread, when Denmark were short of bakers they employed people from Vienna where they came with their new recipes and techniques for making the dough. Over time, Copenhagen bakers continued to evolutionized this new dough process, making it into the delicious Danish pastry as we know it today. Founded in 1870 La Glace is the oldest patisserie in Copenhagen. Today, there are well over 100 bakeries in Copenhagen.
Tivoli Gardens (or simply Tivoli ) is a famous amusement park and pleasure garden in Copenhagen. The park opened on August 15, 1843 and is the second oldest amusement park in the world, With 4.033 million visitors in 2012, Tivoli is the second most popular seasonal theme park in the world, the most visited theme park in Scandinavia and the fourth most visited in Europe. Tivoli is always evolving without abandoning its original charm or traditions. As Georg Carstensen said in 1844, "Tivoli will never, so to speak, be finished," a sentiment echoed just over a century later when Walt Disney said of his own Tivoli-inspired theme park."Disneyland will never be finished as long as there is imagination left in the world." Walt Disney during a trip overseas with his wife Lilly visited Tivoli Gardens in the mid-late 1950’s several times. Walt was so impressed with the Danish amusement park, he immediately decided Disneyland should try to emulate its "happy and unbuttoned air of relaxed fun."
Dyrehavsbakken ("The Deer Park Hill"), commonly referred to as Bakken ("The Hill"), is an amusement park near Klampenborg about 10 kilometers north of Copenhagen opened in 1583 (2.5-2.7 million visitors per year). For more than 200 years he has entertained generation after generation at the old Bakken Amusement Park. The Danish Pjerrot at Bakken Amusement Park is based on the Italian character, and was created back in 1800 by two families of entertainers, namely the Casorti family from Italy and the Price family from England.
When the volume of traffic increased in the beginning of the 60s - in the inner part of the old narrow streets - and the expanding shopping areas around central Copenhagen - as well as the sidewalks streets became more and more crowded with busy pedestrians - who was bumping into each other and blocking the way on the narrow pavements - Copenhagen’s City Council decided in 1962 - to establish a car free pedestrian zone from the westerly Town Hall Square to Kongens Nytorv (The Kings New Square) in the eastern part of the town called “ Strøget ” - which also includes a maze of small streets and historical squares - that altogether are fanning out from “ Strøget ” - and the mediaeval part of Copenhagen - having a total length of almost 3,2 km /1.9 miles and being the oldest and longest pedestrian street system in the world .
Christiania , also known as Freetown Christiania is a self-proclaimed autonomous neighbourhood of about 850 residents, covering 34 hectares (84 acres) in the borough of Christianshavn in the Copenhagen. Christiania has been a source of controversy since its creation in a squatted military area in 1971. Its cannabis trade was tolerated by authorities until 2004. Since then, measures for normalising the legal status of the community have led to conflicts, and negotiations are ongoing. Christiania, since its inception has been seen as a “social experiment” one might even say a “lively experiment.” Christiana used to be a big ol’ military base dating back as early as the 1600s, and was then abandoned in 1967. In 1971 the area was taken over by alternative-minded individuals who sought to create their own self-governing community free from outside control. The flag of Christiania is a red banner with three yellow discs representing the dots in the "i"s in "Christiania”. The colours were supposedly chosen because when the original squatters took over the former military base, they reportedly found a large amount of red and yellow paint. The Dont’s: “No weapons, no hard drugs, no violence, no private cars, no bikers colours, no bulletproof clothing, no sale of fireworks, no use of thunderflashes, no stolen goods.” The Do’s: “Love each other, play music, kiss, burp, feed your turtle, have babies, pick flowers, go to the toilet, have a bonfire.” “ The Green Light District” because marijuana is openly sold there. Giving origin to the three following rules: don’t take photos – since pot is still illegal outside their borders; don’t run – it causes panic; and, of course, have fun.

The City of Copenhagen has developed a strategy to integrate climate change planning into the existing City planning framework. The City’s master plan is renewed every four years. Initially focused on physical planning, it has grown to incorporate strategic goals and sustainable urban development concepts. Through its master planning process, the City assigns climate change related tasks and initiatives to key institutions within the city administration. In recent years the city has invested heavily in multiple sustainability and climate initiatives. In the Budget Deals for 2010 and 2011, approximately $52 million were allocated for climate initiatives during the next four years, with an additional $18 million for improving the bicycle structure in the city. The initiatives in the Climate Plan will be financed year by year, and will be integrated in the annual budget. Certain areas, such as building renovation schemes, will have their own budget headings.

Redzepi - who was named one of the top 100 influential people by Time magazine - developed Noma’s New Nordic Cuisine concept of using only fresh, organic ingredients that can be found in the Nordic region (the name Noma is a contraction of 'Nordic' and 'mad', the Danish word for food). Noma’s efforts are credited for moving Nordic cuisine to the forefront of world food culture.
