Lithologies
Inner Piedmont/Dadeville Complex
IPchg Camp Hill Gneiss
Coarse-grained quartz + biotite + muscovite granitic gneiss, well-foliated, micaceous quartz veins and pegmatite pods present interlayered with
biotite + garnet schist
IPas Agricola Schist
Medium- to fine-grained biotite + garnet + sillimanite + tourmaline + quartz schist with interlayered granitic gneiss, hornblede amphibolites , pegmatite
pods, and micaceous quartz veins
IPmu Mafic Ultramafic Complex
Coarse-grained hornblende + actinolite + garnet + talc mafic/ultramafic rocks, spherically weathered, outcrops poorly, commonly found as float,
locally exhibits enstatite pyroxenite, layered actinolite-tremolite amphibolites altered to serpentine, metagabbros, and massive amphibolites.
IPws Waresville Schist
Medium- to coarse-grained chlorite + biotite + quartz + magnetite schist, with bimodal felsic and mafic interlayers, interlayered granitic gnei ss and
ultramafic pods
IPrc Ropes Creek Amphibolite
Medium- to coarse-grained massive quartz + hornblende + magnetite amphibolite, black and speckled in appearance.
Brevard zone/Jacksons Gap Group
JGscgp Sericite-Chlorite Graphitic Phyllite
Fine- to medium-grained, well foliated, lustrous sericite + chlorite + graphite phyllite, locally graphitic with garnetiferous and chloritoid
JGgqs Garnetiferous Quartz Schist
Medium- to fine-grained garnet + quartz + sericite schists, interlayered micaceous quartzite, well -foliated, can be tabular to paper thin locally
JGggp Garnetiferous Graphitic Phyllite
Fine-grained garnet + graphite + quartz + biotite phyllite, lustrous, well -foliated
JGmq Micaceous Quartzite
Medium- to fine-grained sheared, micaceous and sericitic quartzite, well foliated, interlayered with graphitic garnitif erous phyllite
JGgp Garnetiferous Phyllite
Fine-grained garnet + quartz + biotite phyllite with interlayered micaceous quartzite, locally graphitic
Eastern Blue Ridge
CC Cataclastic Zone
Narrow (< 50 m), brittle deformation zone containing subangular, randomly oriented clasts of varying sizes (from 1 mm to 2.5 cm) and compositions
which are well cemented. Weathers to a creamy pink/tan color.
Ekg Kowaliga Gneiss
Coarse- to medium-grained, well-foliated, megacrystic biotite granodiorite gneiss, plagioclase megacrysts highly sheared and lineated proximal to
margins and Brevard zone
Eem Emuckfaw Group
Medium-grained, well foliated, biotite + garnet schist, locally micaceous and sericitic, interbedded micaceous quartzite and gneiss are common, thin
(< 1 m) amphibolite pods, discrete shear zones, locally graded beds.
