The remodeling industry is recovering from the recession and trending upward. Home prices, new home construction, and existing home sales are increasing. Home improvement spending reached its second highest level this decade in 2012 and is forecast to continue growing. The number of remodeling projects is predicted to rise 4-10% in 2013. Older households' spending on remodeling is more stable and increases more aggressively during economic growth, indicating potential for increased retrofitting work. Kitchen remodeling has replaced other room remodeling as the top use of discretionary spending due to its higher return on investment.
