George Rogers Clark was a Revolutionary War officer born in 1752 who established a United States presence in the western territories. He captured British outposts in Illinois country and established control north of the Ohio River in 1778. Though he knew the American cause seemed desperate at times due to weaknesses, Clark was pleased to take on enterprises to advance the revolution.
