An extranet is a private network that uses internet protocols and security to securely share part of a business's information or operations with suppliers, vendors, or partners. It extends an intranet beyond the company's internal boundaries to external users via a secure connection over the public internet or a private network. Extranets allow controlled access to parts of a company's intranet by selected external users while maintaining security through authentication, encryption, and firewalls.
