Microsoft acquired Linkedin for US $26.2 Billion on June 13, 2016 at $196 per share. The acquisition will enable Microsoft to jump onto the "internet", and embrace social fully. Microsoft will add Linkedin into its products. For Linkedin, the move will help them recover from the decelerating growth.
For Microsoft, next acquisition targets could include Twitter; Pandora; GitHub; Slack.
In the recent past, the Indian food service industry has seen unprecedented growth due to the changing demographics, increase in disposable incomes of the Indian Middle Class, women in workforce, increasing urbanization and families eating out more often.
The US$50-billion food service industry is currently dominated by the unorganized sector and while this is not likely to change in the near future, there will be a steady decline in the share of unorganized food sector over the next 4-5 years.
At the same time, the market for organized food service industry stands at US$15 billion of the total market and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 17% to reach US$33 billion by 2020, capturing 36% of the total market.
Within the organized food service industry, one segment that is growing the fastest is the Quick Service Restaurants (QSRs), which is a price sensitive segment, and caters to majorly the youth. Increasing disposable incomes, the shift in consumer preferences to increasingly eat out, and greater hygiene consciousness are some of the factors contributing to the rise of QSRs. In India, QSRs have a significant opportunity to grow, despite the fact that the chains of both Indian and MNC brands are still confined to certain growth centers only.
The QSR segment in India is slated to grow at a CAGR of 18% to reach US$4.13 Billion by 2020 from US$2.13 Billion in 2016.
The QSR segment has seen the entry of foreign players such as Wendys, Carls Jr, Johnny Rockets and some domestic companies like Goli Vada Pav and the VC-backed Burger Singh also form part of it.
The CMR Initial Market Guidance report on the food sector, with its key focus on QSR, provides the big picture on all aspects of the food service industry, and captures current demand and supply drivers; opportunities and challenges.
Digital is impacting all aspects of the food service industry, as seen with the emergence of new business models: restaurant aggregators, online food delivery, and cloud-based kitchens that back amateur home cooks.
Technology will influence all aspects of the food business--from sourcing to advance reservations, from check-in to on-demand delivery.
Digital is contributing to a new breed of consumers with an increasing demand for gourmet and specialized food.
Food order delivery duration in India stands at approx. 45 minutes/order. We are seeing early signs of disruption here, with startups promising delivery in <30 minutes/order.
For any new QSR entrant to the India market, the real challenge is always getting the homework right on consumer tastes and preferences. It is prudent to not go by mere gut feel, but having the company strategy right backed by actionable research insights.
This document discusses e-governance initiatives by Indian Railways, the world's largest rail network under single management. It highlights key IT projects like the Freight Operations Information System (FOIS) and the successful Passenger Reservation System (PRS), which allows reservations from any location. The PRS implementation in the 1980s was a major success, processing over 8.82 lakh seats daily. It improved customer service, resource utilization, and provided real-time reports. Overall, e-governance has helped Indian Railways improve operational efficiency, responsiveness, and adaptability through intelligent use of information technology.
The document provides a status update on the availability of e-infrastructure and implementation of the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) programme in Indian states. It discusses the objectives, scope, and methodology of the Dataquest-CMR e-States 2013 assessment, which evaluated and ranked 29 Indian states on their 'e-readiness' based on 21 indicators across categories like e-infrastructure availability, e-governance service implementation, and actual service utilization. The top 5 large, small, and overall states are provided, with Delhi, Kerala, and Goa ranking as the top 3 overall. The document also discusses award categories to recognize excellence in governance, policy formulation, and successful deployment of e-g
CMR has released the CMR Initial Market Guidance (IMG) report on the baby diapers sector that construes the big picture and captures current demand and supply drivers; opportunities and challenges.
The market for baby diapers in India will reach US$707 Million by 2020, growing at an impressive CAGR of 21%, from US$303 Million in 2016.
The penetration of disposable diapers stands at 3%, and >80% of the diapers market is controlled by the top three market participants.
The key business driver for baby diapers in India is increasing disposable incomes, coupled with increasing awareness on sanitation. The rising proportion of working urban population, currently at 160 million with an annual average wage of US$3000, is driving the growth of the diapers market.Another factor for rising diaper consumption is the eCommerce channel, which is increasingly being used by the millennial population.
Greater convenience and lower costs are driving diaper sales on eCommerce platforms. As it stands, millennials are driving the sales for premium, imported diapers online.
In rural India, the increasing literacy levels have contributed to adoption of baby diapers. As a result, rural India is seeing more uptake than before. There is an ever-growing awareness about baby’s health. More women in the workforce, growing at 5.6% annually, are also boosting the growth of the baby diapers market.
Lastly, technology has been instrumental in development of new, novel baby diapers that have positively impacted the India market. The market is benefiting from new technological advances resulting in novel baby diapers with superior properties.
The baby diapers market has benefited from improved supply-side infrastructure; thrust on technology-led cost-efficiencies; and from the awareness campaigns run by market participants.
The baby diapers market in India comprises of market leaders, niche brands and Eco-friendly brands. The leading players include Unicharm, P&G, and Kimberly-Clark.
For capturing the leadership position in a market, one has to rewrite the rules of the competition by spotting new, untapped opportunities, and capitalize on them. Unicharm has done that precisely in India by introducing new innovations into the market. They focused on both new market development and market expansion, and in the process, made the competition follow suit.
In terms of raw materials, there is a continuous challenge for non-woven suppliers to deliver cost competitive diaper fabrics with the specific functional performance and aesthetic properties.Suppliers have secured flexibility from diaper manufacturers to change raw material formulations to accomplish cost efficiencies while maintaining high performance standards.
CMR takes a look back at 2015, and identifies the most defining trends that will shape 2016 and beyond for India. When it comes to ICT, India witnessed a transformational year. A new Government set on a path of ambitious digital agenda, with a clear focus on spurring innovation in manufacturing in India.
E governance and digital india by col inderjit singhInderjeet Singh
E-Governance in India, a major initiative under the ‘National e-Governance Plan’ (NeGP) of the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India, was approved in 2006 and it is the backbone of ‘Digital India’ vision.
E-Governance is about Government’s interaction with government, it’s way of conducting business with companies and delivering services to its citizens by leveraging Information and Communication Technology (ICT) enabled strategies for ensuring transparency, efficiency, and accountability in the process which is not only faster but also more personalized and can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It also entails integrating services across different governmental agencies in order to reduce cost structures, simplify interaction and improve overall service delivery in real time.
