History of Embellishments & Trims
- Embellishments are often used to add a touch of luxury and sophistication to clothing, accessories, and home décor. The use of
embellishments and trims in India has a long and rich history. Some of the earliest examples of embellishments in India can be found
in the Indus Valley Civilization. During this time, people in the Indus Valley used a variety of materials to embellish their clothing,
including beads, shells, and metalwork.
Over time, the use of embellishments and trims became more sophisticated. In the Mughal era people used intricate embroidery, zari
work, and mirror work to decorate their clothing.
- In the early 20th century, new materials and techniques were introduced to India, which led to a new wave of innovation in their
usage. Such as :
Borders and laces have been used in Indian clothing for centuries but they were originally made from natural materials like silk,
cotton, and wool. During 20th century, synthetic materials like nylon and polyester began to be used to make borders and laces.
Sequins were originally made from metal, such as gold or silver but during early 20th century, synthetic materials like plastic began
to be used to make sequins.
Polymer embellishments are a relatively new form of embellishment that has become popular in India in recent years. They are
made from a type of plastic that is lightweight and durable.
Present status of Embellishments & Trims
- The use of embellishments and trims in Indian clothing has evolved over time. They were often used to show social status
or religious affiliation. Today, they are more commonly used for decorative purposes. However, they still retain their cultural
significance and are an important part of Indian fashion.
Borders & laces , Sequins were often used to decorate the borders of garments, such as sarees and lehengas.
Today, They are still popular, and are available in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and materials. Nowadays, In addition to
clothing, Borders & Laces are even used for Home Decor , Fashion Projects , Educational Projects, etc.
Although polymer embellishments are relatively a new addition to Indian fashion, but they have quickly become popular.
