Yahel is an organization that organizes service-learning programs in Israel to build connections between Israelis and Jews in the diaspora through social justice work. One of their partner organizations is Friends by Nature, which empowers the Ethiopian Israeli community. Yahel runs alternative break programs for college students, summer camps for teens, and a long-term social change program for post-college participants. These programs provide cultural exchange and hands-on experience with grassroots community work. Yahel is requesting a $5,000 grant to fund joint programming between their volunteers and local Israeli teens and young adults.
Glass is produced when suitable rock melts at high temperature and cools rapidly. In nature this occurs during volcanic eruptions, meteorite impact or lightning. Natural glass was used for tools during the Stone Age. The start of deliberate glass production is recond to be about 3500 B.C., when the Egyptians first manufactured glass pearls. The Romans were the first to use glass windows. Today glass, nearly optically perfect, is mass-produced in float lines.
Modern building glass is supplied as soda lime silicate and borosilicate glass in several
designs. The material properties of the two are quite similar though borosilicate has a lower coefficient of thermal expansion and higher chemical resistance. Borosilicate is mainly used for fireproofing or heat protection. Building glass can be treated to achieve new surfaces, new designs, improved mechanical properties or other wanted qualities. The glass’ mechanical properties can be strengthened considerably by thermal or chemical toughening and/or laminating.

Glass is often classified as an ideally brittle material and therefore seldom used in load
carrying structures. High strength concrete is noted quasi brittle, it has great capacities in stress but close to nothing in strain. Glass with its much greater compressive strength would in safe use allow constructions with even more impressive dimensions than today’s high strength concrete structures.
State diagrams are used to abstractly describe a system's behavior as a series of possible states and events. The document provides an example of implementing a state machine for an Article model in Rails using the Acts As State Machine plugin. The Article model can transition between states like created, published, and deleted by calling methods like publish!, unpublish!, and delete!. Callbacks like enter, after, and exit can be attached to states. Transitions can be guarded using a validation proc.
