Cancer cells primarily generate energy through anaerobic glycolysis rather than oxidative phosphorylation like normal cells. While glycolysis produces energy faster, it does not generate enough ATP to meet the metabolic needs to continue normal physiologic activity. Cancer cells must find ways to supplement ATP production through glycolysis alone to sustain unregulated growth and proliferation.
