linked In a continuous sequence. The preparation
includes cutting, correcting and modifying the material.
Why do we use it?
-Editing helps us select the best parts and cut the rest.
-By using effects, it allows us to make the footage more
exciting and creative.
-It also gives us a finished and polished touch.

3. Wipe:
Thisisthereplacementofoneimagewithanotherbyusingahorizontal,diagonaloraverticalline.Inotherwordsit‘wipes’
theimageoffthescreenandreplacesitwithanother.
Cross-cutting:

Jump cut:
Whentwoscenesareshotfromapproximatelythesamepositionandthenonefollowstheotherwhenthetextisedited.
Usedforexcitement,makestheaudiencefeellikepartoftheactionismissing.
Long take:
Eachshotthatgetsrecordediscalledatake,alongtakejusthasalongduration.
Superimpose:
Thisistheappearanceofwritingandorsymbolsonanimage,meaningthattheyarebothvisible.Thisisgoodbecauseit
increasestheinformationinjustoneshot.
Slow motion:
Byusinganeditingprocessyoucanslowdowntheactionforanemotionalorevenacomiceffect.Thispullsonthe
audience’sheartstrings.

4. Cut:
Aninstantchangeofoneshottoanother,thisisusedwhentheactioniscontinuous.Thisiswhenit’sachangeoflocation,
informationorforimpact.
Fade:
Thisisthegradualfadeofthepicturetoblackorwhite,thiscansuggestthepassingoftime.Italsoisusedforflashbacks
andcanbeusedatthebeginningorattheendofafilm.
Dissolve:
Thetransitionfromoneshottoanotherwithbothoftheimagesbeingoverlapped.Neartheendofoneshot,thenext
shotbecomesvisible.Adissolvecanbeusedforachangeintime,locationandforslowingdownthetimeforflashbacks.
Action match:
Thisiswhereacharacterorvehicleleavestheframeontheleft,thenthesamecharacterentersthenextshotontheright
tomaintaincontinuity.
Continuity editing:
Themainstyleofediting,keepingeachshotthesameasbeforetomaintainthecontinuity.Thisthenmakestheediting
appearseamless.
