7. When I first contacted Thomas
about being a part of this issue, he was
down in North Carolina building a new
park with Artisan Skateparks. I imagine he
was on all fours pouring & smoothing
concrete when he first got our message,
and even in the middle of a project like
that, he made time to shoot the shit with us and send some
of his work our way.
We hope you enjoy.

8. Where are you originally from? Wheres home base for you now?
I was born and raised in Amesbury, MA. Its on the north shore of Massachusetts, the last town
before you hit NH. I have lived all over the country but somehow I always find myself back in New
England. I love it here.
What came first, skateboarding or art?
TD- Art came first. I have been making stuff for as long as I can remember. My grandmother was
a huge inspiration,She was always making things. My great father jack was also a big inspiration.
I remember he only had one arm but he still made super rad water colors(and bootleg liquor).
Skateboarding came along in the early 80s and I’ve been rolling for over 30 years now.
Favorite tool of the trade?
My art favorite tool is a good brush and black India ink.
How did you get involved in building skate parks?
In 2001 Newburyport the next town over from me was looking to build a proper concrete skate-
park. I got on the park committee and thru talking with geth noble the owner of airspeed skate-
parks (the builder of Newburyport) he offered me a job. I worked with him for a few years and then
in 2003 sloppy Sam started breaking ground. We built parks all over New England until 2010
when he sold the company. I hooked up with Artisan skateparks out of North Carolina and have
been with them ever since. It’s my 16th year of building parks.
10. Some people turn their nose up at park footage, any thoughts on park footy
compared to street footage?
I don’t have a problem with park footage. With that being said I don’t want to see park stairs or rail
footage. I want to see something creative.
Any new parks we should be hyped on?
The Nashua NH park starts in May. It’s going to rule! Stoked to be building in New England and
hopefully it will keep growing.
Future plans with your art?
For me making art is something I do for enjoyment. It’s like therapy or mediation. I can lose myself
in it. I can’t skate as much as I did when I was younger so it’s a good release. I have a few graphics
coming out soon hopefully with northern co. and weird wood skateboards. I have a show at or-
chard in July also.
Where can we check out your work?
I usually just post on instagram (@crustcoach) and I have a half assed website that I never update
hahaha (thomasdupereart.com)
11. Any shout outs?
Oh man I will try to keep it short. Shout out to Pete Talbot,Gman ,Noah ,Nate ,Sammy,
Al, TJ Kelly, max, Timmy cools, and all the dudes I skate with. Rice and Jimmy Tatts. The
Artisan crew! Big thanks to Russ Pope and Rob Collins. Thanks to East Coast Overdose
for asking me to do this, and a huge thanks to my wife Carlina and my daughter June.
Keep rolling, never quit! -T.D.

20. I see a lot of shitty art. People try to force it and in doing so, they lose something. Jeff
is the complete opposite of this. He can’t help himself. If he has a pen or a brush any-
where near him it just comes out whether he (or the property owner) likes it or not. I’ve
known Jeff for a long time and I’m happy he has found art in the way he has. He is at
least 50% demon and it seems he has finally found a way to release some of that pres-
sure inside himself out on the canvas/wall/your refrigerator at a party. If you see him
buy him a 40oz...but NEVER give him brown liquor.

22. Where is home base for you?
Home base is currently Terryville, CT
What came first, BMX or art?
I always kinda drew because I thought all kids just draw am I right? My mom was always
very artistic as well. She’s probably my greatest inspiration, but I really got into drawing
and painting after I hurt my back on my bike. I needed that release while I couldn’t ride and
I fell in love with it.
What happened on the bike?
Just was sluggin’ my back around on drops and big 360’s lol. One day my body said enough
of this. Herniated 3 discs and have degenerate bone disease. Couldn’t even walk for like 6
months man. Ill never be back 100% but I’m blessed. Found a new love for art
and shit ya know? Taught me patience and how to appreciate things more.
Thats nuts, sick youre still riding. Whats up with the scooter and bike bond
I see at parks?
I think it’s pretty good actually. This dude badger was always real good on the skateboard
and he’s always been a homie. He transitioned to scooter and now he kills it on that haha.
So I guess its all pretty chill.
23. Back to the art, what is your favorite tool of the trade?
That’s a tough question! I do whatever feels good. For a while ill be in my books with
watercolors, or ill be doing mixed media on canvas, or ill want to spray a wall. But I guess at
the end of the day id probably say just doing whatever on a big canvas or piece of wood even.
Just finding stuff and pasting it on. Painting over it, pasting more, more paint.
Just building layers till I’m happy.
From what I see on Instagram you just draw what you see on a normal day
in those books, almost journal style? You must have a shitload of black books.
Yeah man! A lot of times ill just use something I see throughout my day and mess with it.
Or I will draw from life occasionally. I do a bit of that on the bus! It is like a journal I do write
notes in there for other projects and even just daily life. And yes I have many, many books.
Probably more than I can count scattered across my parent’s house.
24.
25. Do you post your work anywhere for people to see?
Just Instagram mainly. Some stuff lingers into Facebook.
Is your stuff available to buy?
Usually any of my pieces are available. Just hit me up and let me know if there is any interest.
You open to commission work if it came your way?
Yeah it’s not my favorite thing to do, but yeah! My styles different ya know? Its not like
duplication. I always think to myself, the people are going to expect something different.
What would you rather see come back, soap shoes or heelys?
Haha Soap shoes no doubt.
Last words?
Thank you Zack for this opportunity, and thank you for anyone taking your time
out to read this :)
