Scientists have discovered evidence that some members of the Lost Colony of Roanoke Island may have survived and integrated with local Native American tribes. Archaeologists found European artifacts and buildings at an ancient Native American village on the mainland that date to the same time period when the colonists mysteriously disappeared in the late 1500s. This suggests that at least some of the colonists may have fled to the mainland and lived among the Native Americans after becoming stranded on Roanoke Island.
