Dutch Design Week 2013 highlighted several projects including DAF Reborn, which reimagined the classic 1960s Dutch automobile as a modern hybrid; Do-It-Yourself Butchering, a kit for humanely slaughtering and butchering live chickens to reconnect people with their food; and EasyFuneral, a low-cost alternative to traditional funeral services to increase competition in the industry. Other projects were Phone Bloks, allowing users to replace individual components of a smartphone; The Powdery, which can prepare customized meals from nutritious powders on demand; and Grey Connections, a mobile knitting station to foster social connections among elderly people such as those with Alzheimer's. 2. DAF Reborn
Re-introducing the Dutch national family car, made in Holland. Translating the
1960s model into a modern design: a hybrid plug-in.

4. Do-It-Yourself Butchering
Restoring the emotional link between the meat we eat and animal it provides. This
kit comes with a live chicken, an axe and some rope. it’s up to you to turn the
chicken into a dish.

5. EasyFuneral
Question the monopoly position of the funeral service industry by introducing a
funeral price fighter. No frills, just the basics.

6. Phone Bloks
Breaking the pattern of smart phones that are easily discarded. This smart phone
has seperate components, each with their own function. When one component
breaks down or needs an upgrade, it can be easily replaced.

7. The Powdery
What’s for dinner? In the Powdery, you can prepare any meal you like with a
minimum amount of ingredients. The nutritious powders are mixed while you wait.

8. Grey connections
How do you create interpersonal connections between the elderly - especially if
they have Alzheimer’s disease? This ‘rollator bench’ is repurposed by turning it into
a mobile knitting space.

9. Tidy light
When it comes to arranging our desks, some things never change: the need for
light and the wish to store small office utensils. The Tidy Light combines both. It
adds a playful element to a clean-desk policy.
