Drilling fluid is used in oil and gas drilling operations. It is pumped down hole through the drill pipe and drill bit to lubricate and cool the bit while carrying rock cuttings back up to the surface. The drilling fluid must be carefully designed and monitored to control pressure, carry cuttings, stabilize the hole, and handle extreme temperatures and pressures down hole.
