But Rudy was determined to

sfirggled with doubt.
He spent two years diving
headlong into his studies at Holy
Cross, in an effort to qualify for
admission to Note Dame.
He was tumed down three
times before frral$ receiving
acceptance to the university in his
final semester of eligibility.
- Once there, the going got
tougher for Rudy. He had to work
extra hard and endure a high
degree of ridicule just to win a
spot on the football practice
squad. He then took a ternendous
beating from the varsity players
against whom he practiced.
But no matter how many times
Rudy got knocked dou.n, he'd rise
right back up on his feet to take
another hit. He had collected two
years worth of cuts and bruises
just for an opportunity to play in
one game.
Andjust When Rudy had
thought he'd never get that
chance, the team's players and
coaches rallied on his behalf.
He was the smallest guy on the
field but he had the biggest heart.
His tenacity and dedication were
4 inspiratioq gaining the respect
of those around him.
Finally, Rudy had eamed a spot
on the team during its last home
game of 1974. He was sent out on
the field in the game's waning
moments and made a spectacular
tackle to run out the clock.

North Pond fish salvage Satur
By Keith Trout
A second hook-and-line fish
salvage at the North Pond of the
Mason Valley Wildlife
Management Area has been
scheduled for this Saturday, with
some involved arriving as early at
6 a.m.
The purpose of the community
fish salvage event is to try to save
as many bass and blue gill from
the pond for transfer to another
pond on the Nevada Division of
Wildlife's MVWMA as the North
Pond is being allowed to dry up to
eradicate the unwanted carp there.
Elmer Bull, MWIMA supervi-
sor, said a previous hook.and-line
fish salvage last month wasn't that
successful in saving many bass
because the turnout wasn't that big
and the fish "weren't cooperating"
(not biting). He said a full moon at
the time might have contributed to
the lack of success that day but
this Saturday will be a new moon.
"We'll give it another'ky."
