DC/OS is an open source datacenter operating system that provides a distributed systems kernel (Mesos) and ecosystem of frameworks and applications. It allows developers to build and run distributed applications like microservices, big data applications, and machine learning on any infrastructure including physical, virtual, and cloud environments. DC/OS grew out of the need for a new way to develop and run applications at scale across datacenters, as traditional servers and mainframes are no longer suitable. It provides consistent architecture, resource management, and a user interface to deploy and manage applications. Many companies are seeing cost reductions and improved deployment times by running applications on DC/OS.
