A professor tried to prove to students that faith was a myth by asking if God created everything, including evil. A student responded that cold and darkness do not truly exist - cold is the absence of heat and darkness the absence of light. He then asked the professor if evil exists, to which evil is the absence of God, love, humanity, and faith in people's hearts. Just as cold is the absence of heat and darkness the absence of light, evil is the absence of qualities like love that do exist. The student who responded was Albert Einstein.
The original capture of a learning group of first year general chemistry students working on representing sodium sulfide in water was shown to faculty from many disciplines at another college. This, too, was taped and converted into slides and dialogue. Making Learning Visible. College Teaching. tomdrummond.com
Presentation at HEA-funded workshop ' Kindness, care and love: exploring the hinterland of active learning relationships in Education'.
This event offered an unusual way of approaching relationships between students and teachers required to ensure active learning within higher education. The intellectual and academic are not understood separately from concepts of kindness, care and love – rather, there is an inherent interrelationship that teachers must embrace to ensure their students’ active learning experiences.

6. - Everything? asked the teacher. -Yes, everything. Was the answer of the student.
7. In this case, God also created evil, correct? Because evil exists. - said the teacher…
8. To that, the student had no answer and remained in silence. The teacher was delighted at the opportunity to prove one more time that faith was only a myth.
9. Suddenly, another student raised his hand and asked: “May I ask you a question , professor?” “ Of course” , was the answer.
10.
11. “ Actually, sir, cold does not exist. According to studies in Physics, cold is the total and complete absence of heat.
12. An object can only be studied if it has and transmits energy and it is the heat of an object that transmits it’s energy .
13. “ Without heat, the objects are inert, incapable to react. But cold does not exist. We created the term cold to explain the lack of heat”
14. “ And darkness?” , continues the student. -”It exists”, replied the professor
15. “ Again, you’re wrong sir, darkness is the total absence of light.
16. You can study light and brightness, but not darkness. The prism of Nichols shows the variety of different colors in which the light can be decomposed according to the longitude of the waves.
17. Darkness is the term we created to explain the total absence of light”
18. And finally, the sudent asked: “ And evil, sir, does evil exist?”
19. God did not create evil. Evil is the absence of God in people’s hearts, it is the absence of love, humanity and faith. Love and faith are like heat and light. They exist. Their absence lead to evil”
20. Now it was the professor’s turn to remain silent..
