Men tend to die younger than women for several biological and behavioral reasons. Biologically, men's bodies are less efficient at repairing cellular damage and they lack some of the protective effects of estrogen. Behaviorally, men are more likely to engage in risky behaviors like smoking, drinking alcohol in excess, not exercising regularly, and dangerous occupations. Addressing behavioral factors through health education and lifestyle changes could help close the gender gap in life expectancy.
