Today we visited Kelly Ingram Park in Birmingham, Alabama, a historic site of the American civil rights movement. The park was the site of many nonviolent protests and demonstrations led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and others in the early 1960s that challenged racial segregation and discrimination. These protests helped draw national attention to the civil rights struggle and were a key part of the movement's success in achieving greater equality and justice.
