This document provides an overview of technology employment and industry in Illinois in 2017. It finds that Illinois had 437,200 net technology jobs, representing 6.8% of the overall workforce. The top technology industry sectors by employment were IT services and custom software services, R&D, testing, and engineering services, and telecommunications and internet services. Leading technology occupations included software and web developers, computer security analysts, and network architects and administrators. The technology industry contributed an estimated $48.7 billion to the Illinois economy.
