D.  Director of Research of Absence Epilepsy  Uses non-parametric, computational transformation of EEG data  Management of data base, processing EEG, and developing Matlab based protocols for transformation of the data. From this data  I have presented two papers in poster form with this data at the American Epilepsy Society Meeting (see Abstracts).  Investigator for the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and Medical College of Wisconsin based participation in the NIH funded, Childhood Absence Epilepsy Trial.  recruitment of patients,  conducting clinic visits,  data maintenance and coordination  periodic trial updates. B. Clinical Programs  Clinical service 100% of the time,  14-24 weeks of service in the Epilepsy monitoring service  Two full days of comprehensive epilepsy clinic  Half day vagal nerve stimulator clinic per week.  Attend primarily on the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) with 14-24 weeks, and two weeks of General Neurology inpatient service per year.  Read out patient EEG’s every Wednesday.  20% of the weekly EEG’s  Training Neurology Residents and Neurophysiology fellows in Pediatric EEG reading skills.  Medical Director of the Southwest Wisconsin Digitrace Office.  Ensure quality of the EEG data and supervise the medical decision making for the office.  Medical Director of Liaison Service to community Pedestrians or Family Practice physicians.  3-5 e-mail inquiries per week referring to all topics involving the practice of pediatric neurology.  Hired in 2003  Directly impacted the number of admits and expanded the scope of admits to the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU).
  • 15. 10/1/2015 15 Michael J. Schwabe M. D.  Admissions went from 3 admits per week with a year total of 203 to 6 to 8 admits per week o 360 admissions in 2003 o 580 admissions in 2009 (see diagram below). Admission to the EMU involves::  Daily round with the EMU based Neurology residents and the EMU nurse practitioners  Performing daily rounds with the patients and their families.  Reading and documenting the findings of the patient’s 24 hour video/EEG for each patient admitted to the EMU.  The number of epilepsy surgeries expanded upon my hire in 2003 (see below).  As one of two pediatric epileptologist, I was responsible for the expansion of the epilepsy surgery procedures (as outlined below).
