Experience:
Apprentice / Fitter
Time served mechanical apprentice at H J Heinz. Also attended Parr skill centre where I
undertook a tool-making course. This involved working to engineering drawings including
limits & fits and the utilisation of precision machinery working to fine tolerances.
Mechanical technician (roles)
Promoted from a fitter to a mechanical technician reporting to Albert Naylor soup’s
engineering manager in 1988. Responsible for technical support, during the nights & double
day shifts. Duties which included organising labour at a local level to maintain production
requirements liaising with the production departmental leaders, break-down reporting and
hand overs to ensure continuity on a daily basis. I also was involved in a team of people with
the installation and commissioning of Nk8 soup’s MFG production equipment.
Asset technician role: responsible for organising & scoping specific equipment for line
overhauls, mitigating the line performance risk’s by identifying the equipment which could
sit outside of an overhaul scope. This is essential when working within challenging budgets.
The role was central to organising contractors ensuring that they are compliant with Heinz
expectations and practices through the induction process and use of CoC procedures.
Stand up for SEM / AEM during absence
Close out MBR’s
Support APPRO & CAPEX procedure by helping generate URS
Working with planning to ensure insurable items are kept legally compliant, this included
hoists, general lifting equipment & pressure testing of vessel’s (Giusti pressure cookers)
