E-democracy: Comparison of opportunities in the Western Balkan countriesTomislav Korman
Dissertation submitted to the University of Birmingham in fulfillment of the requirements for a Masters of Public Administration (MPA).
E-democracy is considered imperative in the European Union (EU). As an emerging area of research, it promotes the utilisation of information and communications technology (ICT) among countries to promote democracy and the modernisation of public services. This study is based on a comparative analysis of ICT, democracy, e-government and e-participation in 7 countries, both EU and non-EU member states: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia. This paper aims to evaluate the state of ICT uptake with levels of institutionalized democracy in relation to other EU member countries, utilising secondary data. The paper suggests understanding of ICT initiatives and present trends of e-government and e-participation initiatives among observed countries. The comparative analysis of the Balkan countries is mostly based on data provided by the United Nations (UN) e-government surveys. Additionally, data from International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is analysed to observe ICT development in the Balkan countries. Academic studies, reports by relevant international organisations, statistic analyses and interpolation have also been used.

REDD+ (Transforming Development for Sustainability)Tomislav Korman
With international concern escalating as a result of population growth, climate change, food price increases and land grabbing, the environmental challenges facing those living in the developing world become ever more complex, multifaceted and immediate. These challenges are encapsulated within the overarching concept of sustainable development. Reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks in developing countries (REDD+) are important elements of the international climate change regime. Global deforestation is estimated to be the source of 20 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions per year. At the same time, some argue that forestry has the highest potential of any sector to provide low-cost greenhouse gas reduction solutions between now and 2030.
The government established a new PR department to manage online communications and social media presence. The government appeared on Facebook and Twitter, with the Facebook page reaching 100,000 likes, making it the nation's top 5 most talked about page. The government's Twitter also reached 15,000 followers and was among the 25 most connected government Twitter accounts in the world. Additionally, the government adopted an E-citizens project and started procurement for a new central government website portal.
Projekt E-građani: Smjernice za izradu središnjeg državnog portala - GOV.HRTomislav Korman
The development of the emerging government’s central internet platform - gov.hr.
"Internetske stranice ministarstava, nekih Vladinih ureda i državnih ureda pojedinačno plaćaju održavanje i uslugu dostupnosti svojih internetskih stranica.

What was discussed? Open and big data, Visual analytics
Modelling and simulation, Collaborative Governance and Crowdsourcing, Serious Gaming, Opinion Mining.
What are the habits of the internet users as presented through a prism of politics' perception, voter turnout and relationship with other, traditional media. Everything from video consumption, to social media and e-commerce is investigated in depth to give a rounded picture of today's internet user (voter). How internet changed democracy, and what are the benefits of two way communication for brands and political parties? We will provoke the question; are we changing quickly enough our own organisations and our activities to manage, service and support our parties most effectively in a period of low budgets?
How to strategize, plan, organise and measure internet activities? How can we make use of the multimedia, web pages and social networks to encourage people to influence campaigns, political decisions and certain fundamental social changes by using such communication channels? From strategy development and conversation monitoring to promotions and contests, we’ll cover it all! How to use interactive reach channels to help users discover your messages, how to grow your business and online presence. Using examples of good and bad practice, we will find out how to build the right strategy.

It is therefore the conversation which leads to collaboration and, ultimately, to the building of a community.

Which new things has the Kukuriku coalition of political parties introduced into the Croatian internet space and in what way? How can we make us of the multimedia and social networks to encourage people to influence campaigns, political decisions and certain fundamental social changes by using such communication channels? We plan to present the image of the internet and the habits of the internet users in Croatia through a prism of politics' perception, voter turnout and relationship with other, traditional media. Moreover, we then plan to explain which social platforms we had used and in what way. We will present the pros and cons of using the new media, as well as the results that are either helpful or not. Everything is illustrated with examples and habits of using internet platforms by political parties in Croatia as well as by campaigns of both the Kukuriku coalition and the Government.

Recent years have seen a disturbing rise in violence, discrimination, and intolerance against Christian communities in various Islamic countries. This multifaceted challenge, deeply rooted in historical, social, and political animosities, demands urgent attention. Despite the escalating persecution, substantial support from the Western world remains lacking.
