Qinghai-Tibet Railway is a track rewriting human’s project history and Tibet’s history. As the first railway to Tibet, the Qinghai-Tibet railway ended Tibet’s history without railroad and train. It was believed that human are not able to build a railway on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. However, the launching of this altiplano railway on 1st July 2006 proves that Chinese engineers can do it. Making a Tibet tour via this railway is considered as a lifetime journey for many travelers.
The document discusses the Tibet train journey as the best train journey in China. It notes that the Tibet train travels at high altitudes of over 3 miles above sea level, providing passengers scenic views of snow-capped peaks. Specifically, it highlights the Qinghai-Tibet Railway as a remarkable engineering feat, as it required solving challenges of constructing a railway at high altitudes and on the Tibetan Plateau, with temperatures below zero degrees Celsius. Engineers addressed issues like permafrost and low-oxygen conditions. The railway also took environmental protections, like building passages for wildlife. Overall, the document argues that the Tibet train journey offers travelers a memorable experience riding the rails at extreme altitudes.
What you can do for poor tibetan peopleCatherine Go
Tourists visiting Tibet can respect local customs, protect the environment, and help local people. They should avoid touching religious objects or being loud in temples. Additionally, they should not litter and should stay on designated paths to prevent erosion. Tourists can also bring school supplies, sports equipment, or donate money to orphanages to support Tibetan children, as many remote areas lack adequate housing, schools, and medical care. Spending money with local Tibetan businesses and guides also contributes to the local economy and culture.
Why is qinghai tibet railway a world wonderCatherine Go
The famous highest railway in the world, Qinghai-Tibet Railway is reputed as a man-made world wonder and attracts thousands of travelers to take a train to Tibet from Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, etc. Why? It is not merely because it is the world’s highest railway, but also because that the railway is built on the land that many international experts thought it was impossible. So what were the challenges of building this railway to Tibet? The followings are the four major challenges Chinese engineers tackled in constructing the Qinghai-Tibet Railway.
The document discusses travel to Tibet after the Yaan earthquake and concludes that it is safe. Transportation to Tibet, including flights and trains, were not affected by the quake. While the Sichuan-Tibet highway is closed to foreigners, the Qinghai-Tibet highway remains open as an overland route. Train and air travel from major Chinese cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Chengdu are the most common options for foreigners, and these were not impacted by the earthquake. The Tibet tourism permit process also remains straightforward after the quake.
The document summarizes changes to Tibet permit regulations in 2013. Some restrictions on obtaining permits were removed, including requirements for tour groups to have a minimum number of members or for all members to be of the same nationality. Everest Base Camp was reopened to foreign travelers after being closed in 2012. However, permits must still be obtained through authorized agencies and foreign travelers are required to be accompanied by a local guide within Tibet.
When we go out to tour, except appreciating beautiful nature view, local dietary habit is to your taste or not is also important. I believe some friends who want to have Tibet and Lhasa travel also worry about this problem. Especially some north tourists, such as the friends come to Tibet from Beijing.
What you should know before your plateau journeyCatherine Go
It is birthday of a Shanghai girl who name Jin Ling in October 21, 2012. Four days ago, she was getting through Tibet, and she had ever written in micro blog that she would be in Lhasa when her thirty one. However, it is a grate pity that she fell down forever before her birthday. A tourist wrote down advice: there are many dangers in outdoor environment, but life is only once.

1. Cost on taking train from Beijing to Lhasa
Taking train from Beijing to Lhasa is a popular way among foreign tourists to Tibet. The cost of the
train ticket is about 1189CNY for a soft-sleeper berth and 766CNY for a hard-sleeper berth. But
the cost on taking train from Beijing to Lhasa is much higher than the original price of the train
ticket from Beijing to Lhasa.
As all the trains in China is owned and operated by the state, there is no discount on the train
ticket except for children who are shorter than 1.1m. But there is some discount for domestic
students, teachers, soldiers and disabled persons, with required certificates. Therefore, generally
there is no discount for foreigners.
In China, the train ticket fare does not include meals, so you need to pay the food in the train. A
normal breakfast will cost you about 10RMB and a lunch or dinner 20-30RMB. Drinking boiled
water is free, but you need to take a bottle or cup with you. There is bottled mineral water sold
on the train. It costs around 3-5CNY for each bottle of water. If you want to have a cup of coffee
or milk, you need to prepare it by yourself in advance for it is hard to get it on the train.
Except the cost on food, another big expense on the Beijing to Lhasa train trip is that you have to
pay the service charge to the travel agency who help you purchase the train tickets. The cost
ranges from 100RMB to 600RMB in different seasons. In the peak tourism season of Tibet, it
might be hard to get one train ticket from Beijing to Lhasa, even impossible to purchase train
tickets in local train ticket office. It is such a hot tourist railroad, almost all train tickets are
reserved by travel agencies in advance. Hence it is wise to book your train tickets through a travel
agency attached to your local tour request. Please be realized that the travel agency who help
you book train tickets must be a reliable one, not all the travel agencies who advertised they can
book Qinghai Tibet railway tickets are able to guarantee you the tickets. The reason is so simple,
the demand is large and the tickets are limited, especially when you request a soft sleeping berth.
Tibet Travel org is a qualified agent to help you book train tickets to Lhasa, for its stable
relationship with train station and having a reasonable number of tickets reserved annually.
In a word, the total cost of Beijing to Lhasa train tour is about 1500-1800CNY for soft sleeper
berth and 1100-1200CNY for hard sleeper berth. Actually the bunk of the hard-sleeper is also soft.
There are just two more bunks in a room than those in a soft sleeper room.
