This document analyzes limitations of Yemen's palm date value chain and provides recommendations for its development. It finds that Yemen's deteriorating institutions, scarce natural resources, poor infrastructure, and inefficient chain structure and activities hinder the chain's performance. Ongoing conflict further disrupts agriculture and markets. To address this, the document recommends upgrading the chain's product, processes, network structure, and governance through a date farmers' cooperative that provides capacity building, inputs, technology, and market linkages to improve incomes, food security, and resource management in Yemen.
