About the Program
The CompTIA Program is a Free online training program funded by the
U.S. Department of Labor
The purpose of the program is to prepare students to pass the CompTIA certification
exam and train students to become a Computer Support Technician
The program will also provide students with internship opportunities and employme
assistance
Eligibility requirements:
18 Years old or older
High School diploma or equivalency
Eligible to work in the United States
Working knowledge of PCs and Windows
Obtains a computer with internet connection
What is CompTIA?
• The Computer Technology Industry Association (CompTIA)
• CompTIA is a non-profit trade association that provides professional
certifications for individuals working in the IT industry
• CompTIA is considered one of the industry’s top trade associations
• CompTIA A+ is considered one of the first steps in building a career in IT
A+ Curriculum
• The curriculum will cover the fundamentals of PC hardware, software and
peripherals. Students will learn PC installation and troubleshooting,
network connections, operating systems, security and cloud computing
• Core 1 (Hardware) – Mobile Devices, Networking, Hardware, Virtualization,
Cloud computing and Network troubleshooting
• Core 2 (Software) – Operating Systems, Security, Software Troubleshooting,
and Operational Procedures
Network+ Curriculum
• The curriculum will cover the required skills to configure, troubleshoot,
and manage common networks, establish basic network design connectivity,
identify network limitations and implement network security
• The course is instructor led and students will use CertMaster e-learning tool
• CertMaster is an interactive and self-paced e-learning tool, that combines
instructional lessons with assessments, videos, labs and performance base
questions to help students prepare for the certification exam
Certification Exams
• There are two parts to the A+ certification exam –
Core 1 (Hardware) and Core 2 (Software)
• The exams are 90 minutes each, with multiple
choice, and performance based questions
• The Network+ exam is 90 minutes and will cover
networking infrastructure, operations, security
and troubleshooting
A+ Careers
• Potential Jobs Include - Field Service Technician, Help
Desk Technician, IT Specialist and Technical Support
Specialist
• Entry level IT professionals often have the following job
responsibilities: Diagnose and solve computer issues,
provide technical support over the phone or internet,
set up accounts for new users, backup and restore
data files, install and train end users in new
technologies and test new technology
• Starting salaries can range from 35k - 50k
Network+ Careers
• Potential Jobs Include – Network Administrator, Network Field Technician,
Network Support Specialist and Network Operations Analyst
• Entry level IT professionals often have the following job responsibilities:
Upgrade, repair and maintain computer networks, configure servers, and
routers,
troubleshoot networks, manage server operating systems and manage
physical
and cloud networks
• Starting salaries can range from 45k - 65k
