Responses from over 200 comments shared on Facebook and on our survey on the 'consultation' Bradford Council undertook to justify the removal of 32 trees.
3. “Keep the trees what TPO's
where in force for this street
that constituted an Avenue
Consult external bodies
independent of the council
ensure the consultation was
adequate and discipline the
Council Officer who failed this
project and made a major
over sight”
5. About the consultation….
“Totally misleading. I do hope that
after all this they are not going to
take out the beautiful trees on Albert
Road”
6.
7. About access…
“The council managed to lower kerbs and
pavements for disabled access throughout the
whole village, but couldn’t redesign and raise the
walkways around the trees? The council has shown
themselves to be myopic, shortsighted, uncreative
and completely devoid of any appreciation for
the natural beauty that the trees gave Saltaire.
Each year the horse chestnuts and cherry blossoms
were breathtaking.”
8. About the next steps…
◦I think Bradford Council are a disgrace. I really
hope they don’t try and extend the by-pass
through Hirstwood. Nothing surprises me though
as they seem hell bent on doing exactly what
they want without any consideration to the
environment and local feeling. Surely the World
Heritage Status is something to be proud of and
brings in not only visitors but film companies.
10. I LIVE ON THIS STREET, IT WASN’T ABOUT THE
RESIDENTS. PEOPLE CAME AND ASKED WHAT WE
THOUGHT ABOUT THEM BEING PULLED DOWN –
NOT THAT WE HAD A CHOICE.
11. ◦ I would have preferred to see ALL the trees replaced
with a more suitable species and the pavements
repaired. Or the current trees managed, and the
pavements repaired. It is ludicrous to remove the trees
entirely as it ruins the look and character of the village,
and is sure to lower the value of the properties within. I
would also be concerned about the effect it has on
tourism and the World heritage status, surely we should
be improving the jewel in Bradford crown, not
systematically destroying it?
12. About feelings…
◦It looks awful now, barren,
bare! It had trees on Victoria
Road all my life. Now it’s spoilt. I
understand the roots were
damaging properties but put
something back in their place.
