Coal mining involves extracting coal from the ground or mines. Coal is crushed, mixed with water and transported through pipelines. Coal processing further prepares the coal and can include crushing, screening, beneficiation to convert run-of-mine coal into a product that meets customer requirements, as coal is valued for its energy content and has been widely used since the 1880s for producing gas, supporting industrial aluminum production, assisting cement production, becoming a transportation fuel, and producing other minerals.
