6 Easy Steps
Closet Organization Tips by Command Your Clutter To Follow

1. Separate your clothing into four categories

     a. Items that you don’t like

     b. Items that you don’t wear

     c. Items that you really love

     d. Items that you consider basics

2. Working with the items that you love, determine what you need to purchase so that you have complete outfits that look
terrific. Determining and finding these needs is your #1 goal. These clothing pieces are the start of your new wardrobe,
and the items you need to purchase to complete these outfits is the start of your need list.

We suggest Clothes Mentor for finding those additional pieces for your wardrobe!

3. Analyze the clothing that you don’t wear. Determine why you don’t wear each item. Do you really like the item? Do
you have the right pieces or accessories to wear with it? Figure out why you don’t wear each of these items. If you
don’t really like the item, put it in pile (a). If you need something to wear with it, put whatever it is you need on your
shopping list. Determine if what you need to purchase will be a useful piece to add to your wardrobe. It may make
sense to eliminate the item you are currently focusing on.

4. Look at the items that you consider basic. Do you like each of these items? If you don’t like some items, put them in
pile (a). Do your basics fit into your present wardrobe or are they old items that you have just hung on to because they
are basic? If you haven’t worn something from this category in the past year, you probably won’t wear it again. Is there
anything that you need to purchase to make these items more useful? If there is, put it on your shopping list.

5. Take all of the items that you have decided you don’t like, wash and iron the ones that are machine washable, dry clean
the ones that need to be cleaned. Determine if the clothes can be taken to Clothes Mentor. Call to find out which days
they take articles for sale. Ask if they have any special requirements for the merchandise. Take your items in and make
some money from these items that you don’t wear yourself.

6. Before you take in these unwanted items to Clothes Mentor, and before you purchase anything from your shopping list,
you need to make a do and don’t list. To begin your lists, you need to look at each individual piece of clothing you have.
Look at the details of each item; collars, pleats, sleeve length, darts, pockets, buttons, closures, necklines pant leg width
and length and so on. Also, look at your accessories, such as shoes, belts, scarves and jewelry. What type of shoes do
you like? Sling back, open-toe, or closed-toe pump, strappy sandals? What width belt? Something simple or unusual?
What type of scarves? Giant squares, oblong, feminine, bow or short bow? What length of necklace, what size of
earring? And so on. Decide what details you like and don’t like. The details you like should be listed on your do list.
The details you don’t like should be listed on your don’t list. Once you have developed your lists, you will use them as a
guide for future clothing purchases. As time goes on, you will continue to add to each of your lists. Remember that
anything that is on your don’t list is considered a mistake. Don’t purchase another mistake. Make sure that each item
you purchase is something you love!

All of the clothes, shoes and accessories mentioned above can be purchased at Clothes Mentor!
