[PASS Summit 2016] Blazing Fast, Planet-Scale Customer Scenarios with Azure D...Andrew Liu
Data analysts, data engineers, and application developers are supporting unprecedented rates of change, whether talking about latency requirements to the expanding arena of data usage scenarios. While the technology functionality must rapidly evolve to meet customer needs and respond to competitive pressures, how can we enhance the data platform to help manage this unpredictability?
To help address these realities, data practitioners from a diverse set of backgrounds are increasingly relying on schema-free, distributed, scalable, and high-performance data storage (also known as NoSQL databases). In this session, we will showcase a wide variety of customer scenarios, business goals, and technical challenges faced by real-world customers. More importantly, how adding Azure DocumentDB into a data practitioner's arsenal within the Microsoft/Azure data ecosystem will allow you to easily solve these complex design patterns at massive scale.

Measures in SQL (SIGMOD 2024, Santiago, Chile)Julian Hyde
SQL has attained widespread adoption, but Business Intelligence tools still use their own higher level languages based upon a multidimensional paradigm. Composable calculations are what is missing from SQL, and we propose a new kind of column, called a measure, that attaches a calculation to a table. Like regular tables, tables with measures are composable and closed when used in queries.
SQL-with-measures has the power, conciseness and reusability of multidimensional languages but retains SQL semantics. Measure invocations can be expanded in place to simple, clear SQL.
To define the evaluation semantics for measures, we introduce context-sensitive expressions (a way to evaluate multidimensional expressions that is consistent with existing SQL semantics), a concept called evaluation context, and several operations for setting and modifying the evaluation context.

Hand Rolled Applicative User ValidationCode KataPhilip Schwarz
Could you use a simple piece of Scala validation code (granted, a very simplistic one too!) that you can rewrite, now and again, to refresh your basic understanding of Applicative operators <*>, <*, *>?
The goal is not to write perfect code showcasing validation, but rather, to provide a small, rough-and ready exercise to reinforce your muscle-memory.
Despite its grandiose-sounding title, this deck consists of just three slides showing the Scala 3 code to be rewritten whenever the details of the operators begin to fade away.
The code is my rough and ready translation of a Haskell user-validation program found in a book called Finding Success (and Failure) in Haskell - Fall in love with applicative functors.
When it is all about ERP solutions, companies typically meet their needs with common ERP solutions like SAP, Oracle, and Microsoft Dynamics. These big players have demonstrated that ERP systems can be either simple or highly comprehensive. This remains true today, but there are new factors to consider, including a promising new contender in the market that’s Odoo. This blog compares Odoo ERP with traditional ERP systems and explains why many companies now see Odoo ERP as the best choice.
What are ERP Systems?
An ERP, or Enterprise Resource Planning, system provides your company with valuable information to help you make better decisions and boost your ROI. You should choose an ERP system based on your company’s specific needs. For instance, if you run a manufacturing or retail business, you will need an ERP system that efficiently manages inventory. A consulting firm, on the other hand, would benefit from an ERP system that enhances daily operations. Similarly, eCommerce stores would select an ERP system tailored to their needs.
Because different businesses have different requirements, ERP system functionalities can vary. Among the various ERP systems available, Odoo ERP is considered one of the best in the ERp market with more than 12 million global users today.
Odoo is an open-source ERP system initially designed for small to medium-sized businesses but now suitable for a wide range of companies. Odoo offers a scalable and configurable point-of-sale management solution and allows you to create customised modules for specific industries. Odoo is gaining more popularity because it is built in a way that allows easy customisation, has a user-friendly interface, and is affordable. Here, you will cover the main differences and get to know why Odoo is gaining attention despite the many other ERP systems available in the market.

Microservice Teams - How the cloud changes the way we workSven Peters
A lot of technical challenges and complexity come with building a cloud-native and distributed architecture. The way we develop backend software has fundamentally changed in the last ten years. Managing a microservices architecture demands a lot of us to ensure observability and operational resiliency. But did you also change the way you run your development teams?
Sven will talk about Atlassian’s journey from a monolith to a multi-tenanted architecture and how it affected the way the engineering teams work. You will learn how we shifted to service ownership, moved to more autonomous teams (and its challenges), and established platform and enablement teams.

Hi My name is Myoungju Cha. What I am going to talk about today is laptops.
Let me introduce three types of Laptops. I'm going to compare and analyze(애널라이즈) them.
I’d like to outline my presentation before jumping into introducing of laptops.
To begin, let me introduce myself.
secondly, I will show you the (스떼디스)status of laptops quickly.
Next, I’ll talk Feature of laptops with my laptop wish list.
After this, I’ll analyze them.
Finally, I’ll finish with the recommendation.
Let me start by introducing myself.
My name is Myoungju Cha.
I’m from South Korea.
I am a student at Berkeley City College.
I like snowboarding and play Tennis, and I enjoy ‘learning new languages’. But it doesn’t mean that I’m a multi lingual speaker.
(*Kinesthetic=키네스떼딕)
I will begin by looking at the (스떼디스)status.
There are many laptops in the world. This table shows each laptop of the most (뤠프뤼제네디브)representative laptop operating system.
The three operating systems are Mac, Windows, and Chrome.
Let me introduce the laptops that run each operating system.
First product is MacBook Air made by Apple company. It runs Mac OS.
Second is Surface Pro X made by Microsoft, and This laptop runs Window OS.
Last one is Samsung Galaxy Chromebook made by Samsung. And This runs Chrome OS.
For fair comparison(컴페러쓴), I selected laptops that are sold at the same price.
SO these laptops are on sale for $999.
The objective of this presentation is to compare and analyze laptops to understand which laptops meet the conditions I need. →
To find a suitable laptop for me, the priority is to understand how I use a laptop
So let’s see my wish list,
the programs I mainly use is MS Office. I sometimes use heavy program such as Photoshop. So if the storage is possible, 500gb is perfect, but I don't mind 250 GB because Photoshop is not the main program I use.
2) the battery must be able to use for at least 12 hours and I hope the weight is lighter than 900g because I hope my laptop would be portable so that I use it anywhere like library, home, and school.
3)I prefer touch screens and touch pens due to online classes.
4)At home, I usually connect my laptop to an external monitor. So the screen size doesn't have to be that big. If the screen is about 13 inches, It’s enough.
These are the laptop conditions I'm looking for.
I’m going to look at Features of MacBook Air from Apple company are that runs Mac OS. It has 256GB SSD in it. The battery lasts up to 12 hours. and weight is 1.25kg. The screen is 13.3inch,
The strengths of MacBook air is they use larger SSD that compared to other two laptops at the same price point,, And you can use Apple M1 Photoshop, which is only available in Apple. However, not a touchscreen is the biggest drawback for me.
As a result, the storage, battery, and screen size are suitable for my wish list.
Second laptop is Window laptop. The product I chose is Surface Pro X. 128 GB SSD in it. Battery is 13hours, and weight is very light. Just 774g. Intel core i7. And the screen is touch screen and there is touch pen for it as well. touch pen are very useful during taking online class. And Screen is exactly 13inches.
I'm satisfied with everything compares to the wish list.
However, Keyboard and touch pen must be purchased separately. It could be a little over the budget.
Last laptop is Samsung Galaxy Chromebook. It runs chrome operating system.
The features are 128 GB SSD.
Battery hours is 13 hours.
Weight is 1.23kg.
Inter core i3
This laptop is a touch screen with a touch pen.
Disadvantage is the limitations. some of the limitations of Chromebooks are that you can't run specific programs that you can run on Windows or Mac. For example, iTunes, Photoshop, or specific Windows games.
This table shows how I will rate laptops.
The highest is Four points, and the Lowest(로이스트) points is 1.
If the SSD is more than 500GB, It will get four points, the highest point..
And If the laptop’s weight is under 600g, it will get 4 points. And if the wight is over 1kg, it will get just 1 point which is the lowest point.
So I applied the rating table on the previous slide to this table about features of laptops.
Each feature of laptops was scored.
And the ones that meet the Wishlist criteria(크리테뤼아) were colored with highlights.
The scores were ranked by summing them up.
As a result, the laptop with the highest score is surface Pro X.
(마지막 끝줄 설명하자면..)
This means that MacBook Air got the highest score in Storage part.
As a result, The winner is Surface Pro X.
This means that the most suitable for me is Surface Pro X.
Surface pro X is the laptop I need the most, not the best of these three laptops.
That covers my presentation
I hope this presentation will help you choose the right product when you purchase new laptop.
Thank you for your attention.
