Acts 2:42-47 ~ A New Remnant
his week we finished our study of the second chapter of Acts (phew!) by examining the summary paragraph which Luke wrote to separate the events on Pentecost from the healing of the lame man at the Temple. We see a sketch of what daily life was like in this nascent community as they shared their belongings, ate at each others' homes, observed the Lord's Supper together, and devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and prayer. Luke makes a point to show how Christianity was birthed out of Judaism with his reference to their daily visits to the Temple (which is the backdrop for the next chapter).

Mark-Shane Scale was born in Jamaica in 1983 to parents who joined the Worldwide Church of God that same year. As a child, he was raised keeping the holy days and feasts of the Bible. However, the WCG later changed its beliefs. Over time, Mark-Shane explored different Christian denominations but felt drawn to Messianic Judaism after learning more about the Jewish roots of Christianity. God later instructed Mark-Shane in dreams to preach Jesus as the Messiah and called him to be an evangelist. Mark-Shane then began his ministry working to help others understand Jesus from a Jewish perspective.

Leo Raymond de Neckère, C.M.
Leo Raymond de Neckère was ordained as a priest in 1822 and sent to Louisiana to serve as a missionary. He became well respected in Louisiana. When the bishopric of New Orleans became vacant, Fr. de Neckère was recommended for the role. Despite being in poor health, he was elected as Bishop of New Orleans in 1829. After delays due to illness, he was consecrated as bishop in 1830. As bishop, he inspired clergy with zeal and oversaw church building projects. However, yellow fever epidemics in 1832 and 1833 took their toll. Bishop de Neckère sacrificed himself, returning to New Orleans during the 1833 epidemic and ultimately succumbing to yellow fever at age 34

Palm Sunday (Sunday before Easter) is a celebration of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. The Christian house of worship is called the church. Common features of a church include large crosses on the exterior, stained glass windows, pews, and a lectern. Christian worship is the most common Christian practice. It involves praising God in songs and speech, scripture readings, prayer, and a variety of holy ceremonies/sacraments. In many Christian services, people celebrate Eucharist. Eucharist is a reenactment of the Last Supper in which Christians eat a small piece of consecrated bread and drink a sip of wine/grape juice. A popular practice among Roman Catholic, Anglican, and Orthodox Churches, confirmation is a sacrament that enables people to confirm the promises made on their behalf at their baptisms.
