The statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil was envisioned in the 1850s and built between 1926-1931. It is the largest Art Deco statue in the world at 98 feet tall with arms stretching 92 feet wide. The statue weighs 635 tons and was constructed in pieces and carried to the top of Corcovado Mountain, where it stands as an iconic symbol of Rio de Janeiro. It has undergone restoration due to damage from lightning strikes.
