2. It is easy to overlook the importance of structure or framework in your fairy garden
when there are so many fun garden accessories and miniature plants that you can
add to the design. It is essential that you control the space, especially in a tiny
garden where fences create the much-needed boundaries. They give permanence
and form a backdrop to the vignette you built in your fairy garden landscape. All
the miniature plants and garden accessories inside of the fence tell the story of
your design or theme.
3. The point to remember is that whenever you are describing an imaginary tale, you
want to make the main idea as transparent as possible to the observer. Recognize
that the area around your fairy house is in itself a storytelling tool. You can merely
glance at the mini scape and understand there is a story that focuses on garden
fairies, miniature plants, and garden accessories. By surrounding the fairy garden
with a fence, you will find that the purpose of the structure is to hold everything
together and to control the space.
4. The concept of a fairy garden telling a story is what caused me to fall in love with
creating tiny scenes—I have always admired a good story and creative inspiration.
The first miniature display I remember seeing included a vintage schoolhouse with
a bus, playground, and pond off to the side. I saw the scene in front of me and
pictured the children who went to school there and the teacher who stood at the
front of the classroom. In a happy mood, the garden fairy children were playing in
the schoolyard, but it was evident that learning would begin again when recess
ended. While viewing this creation, I knew that I wanted to inspire others by telling
my story in a fairy garden I designed and planted.
5. I noticed an essential element of the schoolyard design was the fence that
bordered the school and playground. This wooden fence pulled everything
together, and it provided interest with a sense of order. It offered unity through
style, color, and shape. When considering the element of structure in a fairy
garden, many fence options can be recognized to frame your space. My favorites
have to be:
6. • Blue Fence Panel: This miniature accessory reminds me of the fences in the
neighborhood where I grew up. They are sturdy, and a few would go a long way in
creating a structured space for your garden.
• Daisy Fence: We all know that family friend who is the most respectful person
when it comes to nature. I picture this fence surrounding the fairy house in their
miniature garden. I am guessing these garden fairies prefer to eat vegetables and
fruit grown in the backyard.
• Whitewood Picket Fence: Visualize this classic multi-purpose fence looking good
in a simple or ornate scene surrounding a fairy house. The reason I love this fence is
that it is easily reusable from one garden to another garden. It is visually
compatible and provides a backdrop for many fairy garden themes.
7. I do not know if I can pick one favorite fence since it depends on the tiny garden I
am working on at the time, but I know that fence structures can be added to
almost any miniature garden to define the area and give permanent dimensions.
The bordering look of fences pulls the space together and allows the fairy garden to
burst with miniature accessories. The design concept of adding structure is what
makes the most significant difference when it comes to your miniature garden
telling a story.
8. Miniature Gardening offers fairy houses, accessories, fairies, furniture to create
