WRITING: THE (CLEAN) TOWN THAT WE ALL WANT

Imagine you belong to a green party and you write an article with your
proposals for a greener town.
These are the ideas you can include:

cheaper fares build cycle lanes campaign to raise people's
awareness
activities at weekends bicycle renting system congestion charge
encourage use of public transport workshops at schools
discounts in shops with your bus ticket encourage use of bicycles

1- Separate the ideas into 3 different groups, according to the topic.
2- Separate the main idea and the supporting ideas.
3- Write the composition.
    • Include:
       -Introduction.
       -Body.
-Conclusion (you can include some general opinion about the topic in the
conclusion: “I believe that we can all help...”, for example)

(Don't forget to use connectors to link the ideas: giving examples, cause,
consequence or purpose)

                           Writing the composition

Imagine you belong to a green party and you write an article with your
proposals for a greener town. Choose the best introduction.

The (clean) town that we all want

   A. I am going to talk about my proposals for a cleaner town because there is
a lot of pollution that makes it very unhealthy to live in our town.

   B. Living in our town is very unhealthy because of all the carbon dioxide we
emit every day. But there are a lot of different ways in which we can make
our town a cleaner place. These are the possible solutions.

   C. Every day a large amount of carbon dioxide is emitted to the atmosphere.
Medical research has proved the negative effect these emissions have on
inhabitants’ health. That is why it is crucial to take measures to improve life
   in our town.
The (clean) town that we all want

Every day a large amount of carbon dioxide is emitted to the atmosphere.
Medical research has proved the negative effect these emissions have on
inhabitants’ health. That is why it is crucial to take measures to improve life in
our town.

As exhaust fumes are the main source of carbon dioxide in towns, it is
important to encourage the use of public transport, for instance by fixing
cheaper bus fares or introducing a congestion charge in order to reduce the
use of cars.

Bicycles are also a cheap alternative to cars.. However, we need to increase
the number of cycle lanes in town to make them more efficient. As a result,
more citizens would use the bicycle as a means of transport.

But it is also essential to raise public awareness of the importance of this issue.
Involving citizens in environmental activities at weekends or workshops at
schools can be very effective for this purpose.

We believe that everybody must be concerned about this issue if we want to
live healthy lives and leave a better environment to future generations.
