This study assessed undergraduate medical students' perceptions, attitudes, and competencies regarding evidence-based medicine (EBM) in Syria. 50 students participated in a 2-day workshop on EBM that included lectures and skills practice. A questionnaire before and after assessed perceptions, attitudes using a Berlin questionnaire, and competencies. Results showed students perceived barriers to EBM in Syria like a lack of teaching, resources, and role models. Attitudes about EBM improved, showing it affects practice and clinical decision making. Competencies improved in perceived skills but not significantly in Berlin scores, likely due to the short workshop. The study concludes EBM curriculum and online courses could help address gaps.
The document discusses embodied energy calculation. Embodied energy is the total amount of energy required to produce and deliver a product or material. It includes the energy directly and indirectly used in extracting, manufacturing, transporting, and disposing of a product or material. An embodied energy calculation quantifies these energy inputs to understand the total energy footprint of a product or material.
This document discusses the design of a Nature Appreciation Center building that utilizes various industrialized building systems. It describes the use of precast concrete components like walls, floors, and a spiral staircase. It also details the construction of an advanced roof system using coated fiberglass membrane. The summary concludes that industrialized building systems can provide benefits like reduced costs and faster construction times while ensuring quality.

This document provides an analysis of the architectural design of a semi-detached house in Surian Tropika Phase 2 by architect Steven Ng. It discusses several key aspects of the design including its response to the tropical climate of Malaysia through passive design strategies like orientation, cross ventilation, thermal massing and greenery. It also examines the architect's theory of minimalism, simplicity in form and emphasis on functionality informed by his education and experience. Diagrams are used to illustrate concepts like sun path, wind direction, spatial organization and passive cooling techniques. The design aims to be sustainable and low maintenance through a clear expression of form and function according to the architect's philosophy of "back to the fundamentals" and minimizing impact on the natural
The document discusses several precedent studies related to lighting and acoustics. One study analyzed how artificial lighting is used in relation to natural daylight levels and occupancy in office spaces. The study found that artificial lights were more likely to be left on in continuously occupied spaces compared to intermittently occupied spaces. Another precedent study examined how different lighting designs and colors can impact a diner's comfort level and experience in a restaurant setting over the course of a meal. A third precedent analyzed factors that influence sound in classroom settings.
The beam and block flooring system uses precast concrete beams that are laid on foundations to support concrete blocks placed between the beams. This system provides a durable, cost-effective floor that is relatively easy to install without needing specialized skills. At the medical center project, a beam and block flooring system was used along with strip foundations, cavity wall construction, and a flat roof to construct a new single-story extension and remodeling of an existing surgery building.
The document summarizes the mechanical ventilation and air conditioning system of the Pinnacle Sunway building. It describes the centralized chilled water system which uses water chillers to produce chilled water that is circulated through the building to fan coil units. Key components discussed include the chiller plant in the basement, cooling towers on the roof, and the chilled water piping distribution system. Diagrams show the layout and location of major mechanical equipment.
This case study examines the adaptation of features from traditional Malay Kutai houses in Perak into the design of the Kampung House Villa at the Belum Rainforest Resort. It analyzes the spatial layout, construction, and response to climate in traditional Kutai houses. The Kampung House Villa design adapted elements of the Kutai house layout like separate public, semi-public, and private zones. It also used local materials like timber and incorporated design strategies from vernacular houses to respond to the tropical climate. The case study aims to understand how effectively the villa design integrated cultural aspects of traditional Malay houses to attract tourists and educate them about Malay lifestyles while adapting the design for resort use
