Editor's Notes
Library has both physical and virtual resources – not just books on a shelfIn addition to the library catalog (books, ebooks, journals), you can search for articles, technical reports, conference proceedings, etc using databases. Your BruinCard acts as your library card; allows you to sign into library site, request or renew materials, etc.
Take advantage of the SEL website – customized for science + engineering students Links to engineering-related library resources (including e-books and e-journals) and librarian subject specialists.
Subject guides for specific disciplines Includes tips for and links to electronic resources, databases, technical reports/standards/patents, etc, as they relate to the discipline
Have guides for very specific purposes/users: science graduate students, for instance.
Start here for books, journal titles (not articles!). If we don’t have it, you can request an item through ILL from the UC-wide catalog, Melvyl, which you’ll find under “search and find” Included in the catalog are a number of civil and environmental engineering books that we don’t own…use the request button at the top of the page and it can be here in about three weeks!
Databases – useful for articles, technical reports, conference proceedings, data sets, etc. Click on “journal articles and conference papers” then “article databases” to get here.
Can access licensed resources (databases, some e resources) even off-campus by setting up the VPN or the Proxy Server www.bol.ucla.edu and follow directions under the links
We don’t just offer books, journals, databases…we also offer a wide variety of services and instructionP & A on using electronic and print resources, article databases, UCLA Library Catalog, other catalogs (Melvyl), Web search engines…navigating databases like Web of Science and Compendex
