Hydro-excavation is a safe, non-destructive excavation method that uses high pressure water to break up soil and remove it using a powerful vacuum. It allows excavation around buried utilities to reduce the risks of damage compared to traditional excavation. By mitigating utility damages and service disruptions, hydro-excavation can save over $1.2 million in costs per incident on average.
2. What is Hydro-Excavation
Hydro-Excavation is the process of using high pressure water to break up the
earth, turning it into a slurry while simultaneously removing it by a high pow-
ered vacuum. When utilized properly the method is a safe, non-destructive
means of excavation.
What it is not
It is not a replacement to traditional
excavating. The process makes it safe
to excavate around utilities (electrical,
gas, fiber, and water). It also makes it
possible to excavate in tight spots.
Risk reduction
Hydro-Excavation is extremely affordable when comparing it to hydraulic
equipment since it mitigates the potential for fatalities, cost to repair dam-
aged lines, and the possible fines to recover loss of service.
