Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned
in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts.
Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are
worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

1. If necessary, install locating dowel (42) .
2. Install bearing (43) so that the notch in bearing (43) is in alignment with locating dowel
(42) .
3. Install turbine (40) to hub (41) and install bolts (39). Tighten bolts (39) to a torque of 60 ± 7
N·m (44 ± 5 lb ft).
4. Install turbine assembly (38) into the impeller housing.

5. Install spacer (36) and O-ring seal (37) .
6. Use Tooling (C) to install retaining ring (35) .
7. Install cover (33), retaining ring (32), and ring (31) on housing (34) .

8. If necessary, install locating dowel (30) .
9. Install seal ring (29) on carrier shaft (23) .
10. Install bearing (28) in impeller (21) .

11. Install drive gear (27) and bolts (26). Tighten bolts (26) to a torque of 105 ± 15 N·m (77 ±
11 lb ft).
12. Use a suitable press to install carrier shaft (23) in impeller (21) .
13. Install spacer (25) on impeller (21) .

14. Install stator (24) and retaining ring (22) on to carrier shaft (23) and impeller (21) .
15. Install impeller (21) and bolts (20). Tighten bolts (20) to a torque of 60 ± 7 N·m (44 ± 5 lb
ft).

16. Install bearing (19) on output shaft (17) .
17. Install seal ring (18) .
18. Install output shaft (17) and retaining ring (16) .
19. Install drive gear (15) .

20. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to install the torque converter housing over the
torque converter assembly. The weight of the torque converter housing is approximately
113 kg (250 lb).
21. Install bolts (7). Tighten bolts (7) to a torque of 60 ± 7 N·m (44 ± 5 lb ft).
22. Install bearing (14) and drive gear shaft (12) in pump drive gear (13) .
23. Use Tooling (B) to install pump drive gear (13) into the housing.

24. Install bolt (11) on drive gear shaft (12). Tighten bolt (11) to a torque of 105 ± 20 N·m (77 ±
15 lb ft).
25. Install pump drive flange (10) and bolts (9). Tighten bolts (9) to a torque of 60 ± 7 N·m (44
± 5 lb ft).

26. Install torque converter speed sensor (8). Adjust torque converter speed sensor (8) in order
to maintain an air gap of 0.71 ± 0.18 mm (0.028 ± 0.007 inch). Tighten torque converter
speed sensor (8) to a torque of 25 ± 5 N·m (18 ± 4 lb ft).
27. Install washer (6) and bolt (5). Tighten bolt (5 ) to a torque of 105 ± 20 N·m (77 ± 15 lb ft).

28. Install torque converter inlet relief valve (4) and the O-ring seal.
29. Install transmission hydraulic control relief valve (3) and bolts (2) to torque converter
housing (1) .
End By: Connect the torque converter to the transmission and to the output transfer gears.

Start By:
A. Separate the torque converter from the transmission and output transfer gears.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Thoroughly clean the exterior of the component before
the disassembly procedure. Cleaning will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal
mechanism.

1. Disconnect harness assemblies (1) .
2. Remove tube assembly (2) .
3. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to transmission (3). The weight of
transmission (3) is approximately 363 kg (800 lb).

4. Remove transmission (3) from output transfer gears (4) .

Start By:
A. Separate the torque converter from the transmission.

1. Remove O-ring seals (1) and (5) from the housing.
2. Remove bolt (3), retainer (2), and drive gear (4) from the end of the input shaft.
3. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to position the transmission on Tooling (B), as
shown.

4. Use Tooling (C) to remove retaining ring (8) from output shaft (7) .
5. Remove four bolts (9) and No. 6 clutch housing (6). Mark the location of the long bolt.
6. Remove clutch piston (10) from No. 6 clutch housing (6) .
7. Remove seal rings (11) and (12) from clutch piston (10) .

8. Remove upper clutch plate (13) and remove springs (14) and remove reaction dowels (15) .
9. Remove clutch plates (16) and friction discs (17) .

10. Remove ring gear (18) and remove O-ring seal (19) .
11. Remove carrier assembly (20) .

12. Remove metal seal ring (21) from the carrier assembly.
13. Use a suitable hammer and a punch to push the spring pins through carrier assembly (20)
and into planetary shafts (22) .
14. Use a suitable hammer and a punch to remove planetary shafts (22) from carrier assembly
(20) .

15. Remove thrust discs (23), and remove planetary gears (25), and remove bearings (24) from
the carrier assembly. Remove the spring pins from planetary shafts (22) .
16. Use Tooling (D) to remove retaining ring (26) from the output shaft.

17. Use Tooling (E) to remove retaining ring (27) from the output shaft.
18. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to remove housing (28) and the O-ring seal.
The weight of housing (28) is approximately 29 kg (64 lb).
19. Remove retaining ring (30) and bearing (29) from housing (28) .

20. Remove friction discs (31) and clutch plates (32) and remove the springs.
21. Use Tooling (C) to compress retaining ring (33). Remove clutch housing (35) from ring
gear (34) .

22. Use Tooling (C) to remove retaining ring (33) from clutch housing (35) .
23. Use steel spacers and a press to apply pressure to retainer plate (36). Remove retaining ring
(37) from the clutch housing.
24. Remove retainer plate (36) from sun gear shaft (39). Remove disc springs (38) from clutch
housing (35) .
25. Remove clutch housing (35) from sun gear shaft (39) .

26. Remove seal rings (40) and piston (41) from the clutch housing.
27. Remove seal ring (42) and seal ring (43) from piston (41) .
28. Remove retaining ring (44) from the output shaft.

29. Remove sun gear (45) and springs (46) .
30. Remove friction discs (47) and clutch plates (48) .
