This document provides instructions for disassembling and assembling the hydraulic fan drive on a 349E excavator. The disassembly process involves removing 22 components in sequential order, taking care to note locations and orientations. Assembly is the reverse of disassembly, applying sealant and torque specifications as indicated. Precision and cleanliness are important to prevent damage to components.

a. Remove the Hydraulic fan Drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan Drive -
Remove and Install".
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before you begin the disassembly procedure, thoroughly
clean the exterior of the components. This procedure will help to prevent dirt from entering the
internal mechanism. Precision components can be damaged by contaminants or by dirt. Perform
disassembly procedures on a clean work surface. Keep components covered and protected at all
times.

released spring force.
Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.
Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to
release the spring force.

Note: Caution is required while handling the lip seals. The lip seals can be damaged if objects or
cleaning fluids contact the sealing surface.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, thoroughly clean all parts except the lip
seals with cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to
dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If
any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.
Note: Check the O-ring seals, the gaskets, and the seals for wear or for damage. Replace the
components, if necessary.

maximum torque of 750 N·m (550 lb ft). After achieving the torque range, overtighten
retainer (4) as needed in order to align the next position for locking screws (3) .
21. Install locking screws (3) and tighten locking screws (3) to a minimum torque of 7 N·m (62
lb in) to a maximum torque of 10 N·m (89 lb in).

26. 1. Remove bolts (1) and sheet assembly (2). Remove bolts (3) and sheet assembly (4) .

Note: Open the hoods to the FULLY OPEN position.
3. Disconnect support assembly (9). Use suitable cribbing to support the support assembly (9) .
